๐ŸŽฏ The Most Effective Way to Sell a Domain Name

Not one channel โ€” a sequence. Price from a valuation, list everywhere at that price, make the domain itself sell, then reach the handful of buyers who exist. What works, in order, and what to do when it has not sold in a year.

Effective means findable at the right price

Most domains do not sell because nobody looking for them can find them at a price they would pay. Fix both: price from a valuation with comparable sales, and be on every marketplace the buyer would check at that same price. That alone puts you ahead of most listings.

The sequence

  1. Price: retail number from the valuation; a private floor near the reseller price.
  2. List: every major marketplace plus DomainDumpsterDive, where the price guarantee keeps you the cheapest option for the same name.
  3. Point the name at its sale page. Type-in visitors are the warmest buyers there are.
  4. Feature it. Use parking credits for placement rather than cash.
  5. Outbound, carefully: find the five to ten companies for whom the name is obviously right (same word in their name, using a worse extension, in the right industry). One short, honest email each, with the price. No blasts.
  6. Wait, then re-decide at renewal. If the reseller price is what you would take, take it now instead of paying to wait.

What does not work

  • Mass outbound to anyone whose company contains the word. It is spam, it burns the name's reputation, and it can violate consent law.
  • Pricing at a number you hope for. Buyers compare; the comparables win.
  • 'Make offer' alone, or a price that changes every week.
  • Waiting silently on one marketplace for five years.

If it has not sold in a year

Either the price is wrong, the channels are wrong, or the name is a wholesale name. Re-run the valuation, check that the listing shows on every marketplace at the same price, and if the number is still right, sell it to another investor at the reseller price and put the money into a name that will move. How to sell fast covers the quick-exit version.

Questions

What is the fastest way to sell a domain?

Price it at or slightly below the comparable sales, list it on every marketplace at the same price with a buy-now, point the domain at its listing, and accept a reseller offer if speed matters more than price.

Does outbound email work for selling domains?

A handful of honest, targeted emails to companies for whom the name is obviously right can work. Mass outbound does not, and can be illegal.

How long should I wait before lowering my domain price?

Re-decide at each renewal. If the valuation still supports the price and the listing is visible everywhere, hold; otherwise lower it to the comparables or sell wholesale.

Put it to work

Value any name free, find what is still available, list at 5% commission, and park where the wait earns credits.
